Humanity has created a rich and diverse ethnic phenomenon, culture and tradition on this little island of Taiwan in spite of being here for only the relatively short period of just over 20 to 30 thousand years. The ultimate goal of the department's efforts in collection and research is to faithfully present the "Story of Mankind" in Taiwan.
The history of mankind in Taiwan is relatively short in comparison to that of other ancient civilizations yet on this little island you may find frequent ethnic interactions and cultural contact. The Department of Anthropology currently has over forty thousand pieces of collection amongst which a detailed record of this period of complex ethnic history may be found. The most ancient fossilized human remains found in Taiwan - Tsuo Chen Man- and relics of the "Yuanshan Culture", representing the agricultural traditions of Northern Taiwan in the Neolithic Period are part of the important prehistoric collection of the department.

| Taiwan's indigenous people are the best representation of the island's rich and diverse culture and the relics constitute a unique collection of the department. The department has the most complete and ancient collection of over seven thousand indigenous relics found in Taiwan throughout the 20th century. It is concrete proof of the rich culture and traditions of Taiwan's indigenous people. |
