In 2020, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) announced the theme for International Museum Day: “Museums for Equality: Diversity and Inclusion.” It was stated that the core of the museum’s social value should be to create meaningful experiences for groups of different origins and backgrounds. This confers greater social responsibility on the museum. The National Taiwan Museum (NTM) is committed to removing barriers that prevent different visitor groups from visiting. Faced with an aging society and a rapidly growing population with dementia in Taiwan, the NTM is constantly consid-ering “how museums should serve this land and its people, and whether museums can do anything for such a group?” We believe that it is not just the NTM, but museums all over Taiwan and around the world that are studying and trying to put this aim into practice.
